Dechman is the CEO and co-founder of the wealth administration agency Summit Rock Advisors, and a trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, where he’s Chair of their Photography Committee. He is a previous trustee of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Along along with his partner Michel Mercure, he collects early modernism, and in addition later artists together with Cindy Sherman, Lee Friedlander, Harry Callahan, Bill Brandt, and Robert Frank. Dechman has loaned and gifted works to MoMA and other museums on a quantity of events, and sponsors the annual David A. Dechman Photography Award. In 2014, the pair introduced plans to make a major donation of photographs to the Whitney Museum, lots of which were included within the current inaugural exhibition (see Unprecedented Gift to Whitney Museum’s Photo Collection).
